On November 15th 2024, we had the honor of being invited to the 2024 school year closing ceremony for the NGO Niños de Guatemala. The event took place in a charming hall near Antigua Guatemala, where preschool, primary, middle school, and high school students received recognition diplomas from their teachers for their effort and dedication throughout the year. It was a moment filled with pride and joy for both the students and the collaborators, sponsors, and founders of this wonderful organization.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the ceremony was the opportunity given to the outstanding students to apply for jobs with the organization's partner institutions. We were thrilled to learn about two students who, thanks to their academic excellence, were formally introduced and received job offers from two prestigious hotels in Antigua Guatemala. This achievement not only reflects their hard work but also the organization's commitment to the future of these young individuals.
The students' joy upon receiving their diplomas was contagious. We had the pleasure of enjoying several artistic performances, starting with a play by the preschool students based on the story of Shrek. The primary school students delighted us with a play titled "My First Day in School," and to top it all off, we witnessed a traditional Mayan dance that concluded with the burning of the Devil, a tradition dating back to colonial times.
At the end of the ceremony, parents and graduates celebrated with a lively group dance to the sound of the marimba, creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie that will undoubtedly remain in our hearts.
After this emotional celebration, we headed to the community of San Lorenzo el Cubo, where the model school of the Niños de Guatemala is located. There, we observed how science and technology play a fundamental role in the students' education. They showed us how the students learn robotics, programming, and, of course, English. The organization not only focuses on providing a comprehensive education but also on the children's emotional well-being, with a psychology room where they can manage their emotions and channel them positively.
The school also has a cultivation area where the children learn to produce their own food, such as radishes, carrots, beets, and lettuce. This experience teaches them the importance of self-sufficiency and maintaining a healthy diet. During the harvest season, the school director mentioned that the food grown by the students is included in their meals, which is a source of great satisfaction for both the teachers and the students.
We are definitely proud to contribute to this beautiful project that has such a positive impact on our country. Seeing the joy and growth of these children motivates us to continue supporting and believing in a better future for everyone.
